Back to NewsFree School Meals & Cost of Living Support
The impact of the cost of living crisis is being felt across the nation. There are a number of support programmes available in the area to support families in need and we will be sharing this information with our families as often as possible. Further support is also available via free school meals, the Holiday Activity and Food Programme and the Household Support Fund.
Your child may be eligible for free school meals if your household income does not exceed £7400 per year. If you receive any of the following you may qualify.
- Universal Credit (provided you have a net income from employment of no more than £7400 per year). For more information on how the government calculates your earnings from employment whilst claiming Universal Credit, please check the "Eligibility under Universal Credit" section below.
- Income Support
- Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you're not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Applications for free school meals must be submitted via Slough Borough Councils website https://www.slough.gov.uk/xfp/form/244
If for any reason you are unable to apply online, report to the school main reception to collect an application form.
If your child is eligible for free school meals, they will also qualify for the Holiday Activity and Food Programme. To register a place for your child, collect an application form from main reception.
You may be able to get help with necessary household expenses via the Household Support Fund held by your local authority. Through this scheme you may be entitled to food vouchers during the school holidays or help with the cost of energy and water bills or other essential items. Check with your local authority to see what support is available.
